Cold War International History Project

Chris Read explains how to find a wealth of resources on the Cold War using the History and Public Policy Program Digital Archive

The History and Public Policy Program Digital Archive of the Wilson Center in Washington DC, including the Cold War International History Project, constitute one of the most wide-ranging and richest online resources for studying international and, to some extent, national histories since 1945.

The project was set up in 1991 by scholars who realised that the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and, in particular, the Soviet Union opened up an immense and unprecedented opportunity to gather documents from all sides involved in the Cold War – a defining force in world history since the Second World War. As such the archive is one of the most important historical archives in the world.
