Wellbeing in higher education

Starting university can be a challenging time for many students, but learning to use the support services available can greatly improve your experience

Getting into a university can be stressful. From the selection of the right institution and course for you, to the application process and then the wait for your offer. There are the exams: will you get the grades to get to the university you really want to go to? Then results day comes and now you can relax.

But wait! Going to university means going to new places, leaving family and friends behind and embracing the unknown. Unknown city, unknown institution: a completely different way of living. For some even a different country and definitely people from different backgrounds and cultures. The emotions run high as excitement and joy mix with apprehension and anxiety. ‘Will I find my way? Will people like me? Will I make friends? Will I miss home and my family and friends?’
