Time management for historians

This column aims to provide you with some of the tools that will help you manage your time more effectively so that you can get the most from your study of history

As you have probably realised, studying history at A-level is very time consuming. What makes history as a discipline especially demanding on time is the requirement that you ‘read around’ topics as part of the process of acquiring core knowledge, understanding and skills. Few other subjects have the expectation that you should assimilate material that goes beyond what is stated in specifications.

It is helpful to be aware that, as a student, there are different ways of viewing ‘work time’ and ‘leisure time.’ This will lead to you being more flexible and in control of your workload. Broadly speaking, time can be divided into that which is fixed and that which is variable.
