2016 marked the centenary of the Easter Rising. I was there in person, on Monday, 24 April 1916.
I stood with my Irish ancestors and their Republican comrades, fearfully barricaded into the Dublin General Post Office, a vengeful British army gathering in the streets below. I could feel the bullets flying. I could sense our excitement and hope turning to desperation. Seeing the Irish tricolour flag flying over this iconic building had been a moment of great victory in itself.
