fascism The name is taken from the Latin fasces, meaning bundle or group. The fasces was a bundle of rods carried by the Lictors (attendants to magistrates) in ancient Rome. It symbolises strength, unity and justice.

ideology The system of beliefs, ideas and principles that underpin political actions.
