The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database (www.slavevoyages.org) provides history students with information on the voyages of slave ships from the sixteenth century to the nineteenth century. These voyages took 12 million men, women and children from Africa to the Americas in a journey known as the ‘Middle Passage’. The database offers a unique insight into one of the most important — and terrible — mass migrations in history.
