Source B An agency stock photograph for use in newspapers. It shows some of the arrivals at a British airport

The key to writing successful answers to the newstyle source questions is to evaluate the sources effectively by analysing their provenance and how far they support each other as a body of evidence in the context of the historical events you have studied. There are 5 marks available for spelling, punctuation and grammar, and the reference to use of specialist terminology in the mark scheme clearly signals that examiners will no longer be prepared to accept incorrect spelling or usage of the word ‘biased’.

‘The Asians expelled from Uganda by Idi Amin arrived in Britain with nothing.’ How far do Sources A–C convince you that this statement is correct? Use the sources and your own knowledge to explain your answer. (20 marks, plus 5 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar and the use of specialist terminology.)
