The interaction between humans and the natural world is central to geography. Building an appreciation for this complex relationship has been extremely valuable for a role in an organisation operating out of one of the largest remaining wildernesses on Earth.
At British Antarctic Survey, my role as a trainee sustainability advisor sits within the major projects team. This team manages all major work or construction that may be needed on our largest Antarctic base, Rothera. It is my responsibility to help make sure that sustainability is considered throughout the design and delivery of our projects, whether that be resurfacing a runway, or installing renewable energy technologies in an effort to decarbonise the base.
