China set to dominate global EV market

In 2023, China became the world’s foremost exporter of cars, with more than 5 million sales overseas. The rapid emergence of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in China is sending shockwaves across the global automotive industry.

This expansion has added fuel to clashes between China and the USA over trade and technology. Competition between these superpowers has become intense. Chinese EVs are now seen as a serious threat by US politicians and car manufacturers. President Biden has placed large tariffs on EVs imported from China, seeing them as a threat to US jobs and national security.
