Since graduating with a degree in geography, I have had the pleasure of working with farmers around the world to create thriving, sustainable agricultural systems. As an independent agroforestry consultant, working in places as diverse as the UK, Zambia, Spain and Indonesia, every day I put into practice what I learned during my degree.
Simply put, my work is about supporting farmers to plant and use trees on their farms. If done well, this can benefit them, their families, communities and landscapes. But this work is far from simple. Across all my projects, I need to understand and address issues of biodiversity loss and conservation, soil health, deforestation, flooding, economics, social systems, culture, health and welfare and so on — all at the same time! But my experiences as a geography student have prepared me uniquely for this work.
