Hyperlocal means ‘…pertaining to a town, village, single postcode or other small, geographically defined community’. In other words, ‘hyperlocal’ describes information oriented around a well-defined community, with its primary focus directed toward the geographies of the population in that community.
Researching the hyperlocal environment has, perhaps, been unpopular with A-level students over the years. Indeed, fieldwork abroad or in more distant locations was popular and commonplace. Travel restrictions in 2020 and 2021, however, meant that schools, colleges and students have been forced to rethink their fieldwork. This has usually resulted in work taking advantage of the opportunities that are much closer to home, i.e. hyperlocal.
