In his Making Connections column on hazard and place in this issue (pages 10 –12) David Redfern discusses the population and release model as a way of considering the generation of natural hazards. He also discusses some of the links between cultural attachment to places and the generation of hazards. David uses volcanic examples to illustrate these concepts but you could use examples closer to home as the basis for an NEA.

In the UK, waterfront property with sea views or a river frontage is highly desirable and may command a premium on the property market. However, proximity to water means that such properties may be at risk from flood hazard.
