Rivers, flooding and management

This Question and Answer picks apart a rivers, flooding and management question for AQA Unit 1, Physical and Human Geography (May 2013). This AS question focuses on flood risk, flood management and the reasons for variations in river discharge. These topics also appear in other specifications (see Box 1). The questions are typical of many AS questions in terms of mark tariff and command words. The question is printed in bold type and the students’ answers are in italics. The examiner’s comments are the responsibility of GEOGRAPHY REVIEW and have neither been provided nor approved by AQA. They may not be the only possible answers
