Land degradation and badlands

Land degradation is the significant decline in land quality and reduction in its productivity. Usually, it results from human activity where there is a mismatch between the quality of the land and its use. Land degradation was an important global issue during the twentieth century because of its adverse impact on agricultural productivity and its effect on food security. It seems likely to remain high on the agenda for the foreseeable future.

Land degradation can arise from many different causes. Before you read on, see if you can list some of the causes.
