Feste, the Clown in Twelfth Night, often appears on stage as an entertainer. He sings and plays music in both Orsino and Olivia’s households, moving between them unpredictably. The first time we see him he has to jest his way back into Olivia’s favour, having been long absent (1.5). He successfully gains money for his singing and his fooling, managing to extract two coins from Viola at the opening of Act 3. The final words of Feste’s parting song bridge the world of Illyria and our own:
