Luke Kennard is the author of seven works of poetry and short fiction. His first collection, The Solex Brothers, was published in 2005. His work is humorous, clever and deliberately mixes genres, blurring the lines between poetry, prose fiction, film script and essay. His style is self-deprecatory, and often subverts the conventions of ‘serious’ poetry. Many of his pieces include surreal narratives. In 2014 Kennard was selected by the Poetry Book Society as one of its ‘next generation’ poets.
‘Chorus’ comes from a sequence called ‘Popular Cults of the First Millennium’, published in The Harbour Beyond the Movie (Salt 2007). It is reproduced here by permission of the poet.
