Ian Pindar was born in London in 1970. He won second prize in the National Poetry Competition 2009, and his winning poem was shortlisted for the Forward Poetry Prize (Best Single Poem) in 2010. He was a runner-up in the Bridport Prize 2010. His debut poetry collection, Emporium, was published by Carcanet (2011). These two poems are taken from his forthcoming second collection, Constellations (Carcanet, 2012). Ian Pindar is also a freelance writer and editor, and regularly contributes to the Guardian and The Times Literary Supplement.
