AQA (A) Literature: ‘Victorian literature’
The Brontë family moved to Haworth when Emily and Anne were both babies, so they grew up surrounded by the bleak landscape of Haworth Moor. The Parsonage overlooks the church and the graveyard, but, from the rear, the Brontës would have had an uninterrupted view of the moors. The children were allowed to play freely outside, accompanied by an adult, and they grew up loving the moors in all their moods. However, there came a point when they felt they should move away to earn their own living.
