Contemporary poets

Christopher Reid

Christopher Reid has written books of poems for both adults and children, as well as editing the Letters of Ted Hughes (Faber 2007).

‘A Scattering’ is taken from his collection of the same name, which won the Costa Book of the Year Award 2009. The judges described it as a ‘lifeaffirming collection, full of urgency and feeling’. A Scattering, published by Areté Books (2009), is a tribute to Reid’s wife, Lucinda Gane, who died in 2005. It consists of four poetic sequences, ranging from the first diagnosis of her illness to his moving exploration of bereavement.
