It is with great sadness that we share the news that Professor Peter Smith passed away on 25 January 2024. Many of our readers will know Peter from his Understanding Economic Data column, various articles, and his passion for development economics.
Peter was co-founder and editor of Economic Review — which has now surpassed its fortieth volume — and he remained an active and valued member of the magazine’s editorial board. Peter was also hugely valued member of the wider economics education community and a supportive colleague to all of us.
