Why do people commit crimes?

In 2021, 22% of adults in England and Wales reported being the victim of a crime. The most common types of crime were fraud or computer misuse (such as hacking). Smaller proportions of these individuals reported that they were victims of more serious crimes such as violence or burglary. Table 1 shows the types of crimes being committed.
