Lord Stern is IG Patel Professor and the Chair of the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also President of the British Academy, a learned society of fellows elected for their eminence in the humanities and social sciences. During his time in the civil service, as Head of the Government Economic Service and second permanent secretary to HM Treasury, he led two internationally influential reports, the Commission for Africa and the Stern Review.
