What is the value of an economics degree?

Is it worth studying economics at university, given the prospect of taking on a substantial student debt? John Simister looks at how much economists earn and whether the gender gap is closing in the profession

Some students question the value of a university education. UK tuition fees are high: about £9,000 per year. Nick Clegg apologised for breaking his promise not to introduce tuition fees, but his apology is of limited help if you take on about £27,000 of debt to become an economist. Perhaps you’re thinking of leaving education at 18, and going straight into paid work. This article may help you decide.
