The world in recession?

There has been much talk of the global recession that has affected the world since the late 2000s, but have all countries been equally affected? In this article, I will look at the range of experiences around the world, focusing on the period since 2000.

For the most part, the 1990s and 2000s were relatively stable in terms of economic growth. Many countries in the world enjoyed an almost unprecedented period of expansion of their economies. Then in around 2008/2009, it seemed that things began to fall apart. However, although there were some fluctuations, economic growth was fairly steady until the plunge into recession in 2009. Discussion in the media often refers to the ‘global recession’ of this period, but did all countries follow the same pattern?
