Country X is classified by the World Bank as a lower middle-income country, with GNI per capita in 2008 of US$1,017. In terms of the human development index (HDI), Country X falls just over the threshold for a medium human development (MHD) country, registering a value of 0.519. Country X is the world’s largest democracy and in terms of population, it is one of the largest countries in the world. It has enjoyed one of the most rapid rates of economic growth in recent years, having made significant progress. Figure 1 shows the annual growth rate of GDP per capita since the mid-1960s.

Figure 2 shows that Country X has also made good progress in terms of human development, with a steady increase since 1980. However, there are still issues that need to be addressed.
