Congestion, as a general problem, does not apply only to road usage, but it is certainly experienced first hand by pretty much all citizens. Let us use this example to explain the general problem of the socalled congestible public good, where the phenomenon known as the tragedy of the commons is endemic. Let us also examine the proposals often suggested by economists to ease the inefficiencies associated with traffic jams.
