This statement has been widely attrib-This uted to Albert Einstein, although there are many blogs and web pages that deny he said it.

The website www.bumblebee.org claims that if Einstein did say this, he was wrong — as man could survive for 7 years without bees. Either way, this sounds pretty serious. In June 2010, http://news.bbc.co.uk reported that ‘if bees and other pollinators were to disappear completely, the cost to the UK economy could be up to £440m per year’. Another estimate is that the value of Europe’s insect pollinators could be as much as €14.2 billion. Insect pollinators include not only bees, but also hoverflies, wasps, moths and butterflies, all of which play an important role in pollinating plants.
