REVISION NOTE

Mastering units

Knowing how to use your units will help you avoid missing out on marks

How many electrons are there in 100 kg of H2O?

During my chemistry studies, I recall my teachers reminding us many times to ‘Keep track of your units’. They had good reason, as mistakes with units account for a lot of lost marks in A-level chemistry exams.

Units may sound like a simple topic, but they are important and useful in all science and maths studies. I’d like to share a technique to keep on top of units, which I used at A-level and beyond. The key is to write down all the steps as you work out an answer, so you are less likely to make careless errors.
