ANSWER BACK

Sodium and so on

Faye Laverick shows you how to answer exam questions on the reactions and properties of sodium and its compounds

These questions about sodium and some of its compounds were taken from the A-level Chemistry Paper 1 ‘Inorganic and Physical Chemistry’, set in June 2018 by AQA, which has given permission for their use here. Responsibility for both the answers and the comments rests solely with CHEMISTRY REVIEW.

Use your knowledge of structure and bonding to explain why sodium bromide has a melting point that is higher than that of sodium, and higher than that of sodium iodide. (6 marks)
