Conservation and cyclododecane

Conservators face many issues with fragile objects If artefacts must be moved during restoration, a risk of irreversible damage arises. Chemical binding and covering materials are vital in such cases. The most widely used is cyclododecane.

Cyclododecane (CDD, C12H24) is an alicyclic saturated hydrocarbon (Figure 1). At first glance, CDD does not look all that exciting, so what makes it special?
