The phrase ‘exam time’ is enough to make us feel anxious. How is it that we can survive the stress of exams, and where do we get the willpower to engage in days of studying and evenings of revision?
A group of molecules called neurotransmitters pass messages between nerve cells in the body. These compounds are responsible for the feelings we experience and have been the subject of much research. More than 100 neurotransmitters exist in the human brain and a few play a key role in getting us through the exam period.
