In 2010 the Nobel prize in physics was awarded to two scientists from Manchester for groundbreaking experiments using graphene. Scientists at Cornell University were trying to recreate these experiments when they accidentally broke a world record — making a sheet of glass just two atoms thick and in doing so confirming an 80-year-old theory
