AAAS Conference

In February 2011 I was fortunate enough to be part of a small school group of young scientists able to spend a week in Washington D.C. to attend the American Association of Advancement of Science (AAAS) conference. The AAAS is the world’s largest science society and each year they hold a global conference in one of the major cities of the USA. The conference itself lasted for 4 days, leaving some spare time for us to explore the city.

Our party was based in a central Washington hostel, which was only a short walk from the conference centre. We were free to choose which sessions to attend, and most of us were eager to arrive in time for the first lecture each morning, meeting at 8 a.m. for the start of the day’s symposia, usually after a caffeine boost from Starbucks and a pancake breakfast at the conference centre.
