EXAM GUIDE

Acquiring key skills

What is the best way to prepare for exams in uncertain times?

The 2021 exams may have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but year 12 students can still get a head-start on preparation for 2022. You may have had major interruptions to your learning due to lockdowns and the varying amount and quality of remote teaching that you have been able to access. Mastering the key terminology is likely to be the first challenge that you will need to overcome. Many students found it difficult to maintain motivation during lockdown, and not having the regular face-to-face in-classroom teaching meant that it was perhaps more difficult to correct any misunderstandings or gaps in their subject knowledge.

Thankfully, there are several useful websites you can utilise that are very helpful in working through key terms and content. A website that my students have found useful is Seneca Learning, which uses an algorithm to help diagnose areas of the course that you are less strong on and test you more on these areas. Sites such as these are important when it comes to assessment objective 1 (AO1), which is knowledge. Learning your key terms acts as the gateway into your answer.
