exam guide

Tick tock...

Time is running out. Where are you in the revision process? Still sorting notes and sharpening pencils? Or well into your stride?

The starting point for revision is laying the foundations, which means being able to define all the terms identified in the specification. But if time is tight, focus on the headings. In Table 1 (for Edexcel business) the heading is on the left. Therefore you need to be able to define (and understand) ‘organic growth’. As long as you understand that this means growth from within the company’s resources, it should be clear that inorganic growth is outside, not in — specifically it means growth by buying up or merging with another business. For now, don’t worry about the other details on the right-hand side — just focus on knowledge of the key terms.

Once you think you have a good grasp of the terms in the specification, test yourself by looking through a past paper. All the exam boards display papers on their websites, either ‘specimen papers’ (invented to show teachers how the new exams would look) or real ones. The 2017 papers will be the easiest to get hold of. Can you understand fully what every exam question is asking? If you’re still stumbling on business terms used in the questions, you have more to do.
