The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was a hugely successful tournament, and not only due to the memes based around ‘Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home)’ and #GarethSouthgateWould that emerged as England had a decent tournament, reaching the semi-finals. Fears about hooliganism and crime failed to materialise, with the hosts making sure that everything was run well with excellent logistics and full stadiums for all of the matches.
Major sporting events are an area that I have written about before and I find it fascinating how such a tournament is put together. While non-football fans might hate the idea of football on television non-stop for a month, lovers of the sport find themselves engrossed in games featuring Japan and Croatia, trying to spot the latest talent to take on the mantle of the superstar players such as Ronaldo and Messi.
