Hotel Chocolat: SWOT analysis

in brief

Live sport and speedy shoes

The world of broadcasting has changed significantly over the last decade, with breakthroughs in technology such as broadband and streaming meaning that the way customers view content has radically changed. Viewers of major shows such as Game of Thrones and Stranger Things tend to consume them by ‘bingeing’ on box sets, watching whole series in one or two sittings. This has meant that ‘water-cooler moments’ — when a whole nation is sat down to watch an event — are becoming more of a rarity.

Live sporting events are an exception to this. This places great value on these events, particularly in terms of advertising and monetising them effectively. While Sky in the UK and ESPN have long been market leaders, the signs are that fresh competition is cutting into their market share, and it comes from areas that few would have predicted just a few years ago.
