Wearable technology

Despite experts overestimating the sales of Apple Watches in 2015 by a significant amount (9 million sold vs 20 million estimated), they still predict that 411 million wearable devices will be sold by 2020, worth $34 billion

While you might not have an Apple Watch today, by 2020 you will probably be using some form of wearable technology. This term encompasses a whole range of items, from devices that track information related to health and fitness, to devices that have small motion sensors to sync with your mobile devices, to segments such as digestible technology for the healthcare sector and ‘smart wigs’ by Sony (Box 1). From a technical point of view, wearable technology should aim to operate silently but powerfully in the background, blurring the line between user and device.
