Stripe is an online payment system that was started by two brothers, Patrick and John Collison, in 2010. While you will be aware of PayPal, Stripe has made a point of targeting emerging markets as a way to try and establish itself in the marketplace. Stripe has a competitive advantage in emerging markets, as its payment technology handles transactions in 139 currencies. While it faces stiff competition from China’s Alipay, PayPal and Square, the company believes that by aiming at a more international audience it can help provide software that lets mobile apps and commerce sites embed a payments system by adding just a few lines of code.
