Lessons for BUSS4 exams

BUSS4 exam questions will stretch your research skills but also require strong exam technique. Phil Waterhouse provides a few guidelines that will help you achieve the highest grade possible

The first and most important rule for any exam is to read the question carefully and make sure you understand exactly what it is asking of you. Every year students fail to take the care and attention required to fully address what the examiner is asking and this leads to scripts being annotated with the dreaded NAQ: not answering question.

Under the pressure of the exam hall, it is all too easy to throw yourself into a question and simply write as much as you can about a particular topic. Speaking as an examiner, this is especially evident in relation to the BUSS4 exam and in particular on the Section A question, which is based around the pre-release theme. This means that students have invariably learnt loads of examples and will seek to use them no matter what the exact question is asking.
