So where is the most visited place on Earth? I asked this in my classes recently and got some interesting and thoughtful answers to what is arguably a rather open question. Some suggested certain airports, some places of worship, while others went for iconic buildings around the world. The answer is actually a shopping mall in the middle of a desert.
With its oil reserves depleted, Dubai had repositioned itself as an ideal location to do business, reinventing its economy as a trading centre. One of the first strategies was to become a travel hub, leading to the development of the Emirates brand and air network. Dubai is a central location for the majority of the world’s population — Europe, India and China can all be reached within a 5-hour flight.
