Tesco will have no doubt featured in your classroom studies at some point, but what exactly is happening at the UK’s largest supermarket chain? Once the flagship British brand and model of market dominance and sustained profits, Tesco is an organisation in turmoil and in need of change.

Philip Clarke’s departure from Tesco may not come as much of a surprise. In fact, the surprise may be that his departure didn’t occur earlier than July 2014. Tesco’s share of the UK grocery market has been steadily declining, with Aldi and Lidl profiting from its demise.
