IKEA

When Ingvar Kamprad was 17, his father gave him money as a reward for succeeding in his studies. He used it to establish his own business. The name IKEA is formed from the founder’s initials plus the first letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd, the farm and village where he grew up.

Now one of the world’s most recognised brands — famous for its huge stores on the outskirts of major cities and towns — IKEA operates in over 38 countries and is a fascinating business, having changed the nature of how consumers buy household goods.
