When making an investment decision, it is important that potential investors look at both the quantitative factors (financial returns) and the qualitative factors (non-financial issues). Arguably, while it will often come down to the key finances, the qualitative factors should not be ignored and will form an important part of the decision-making process.

The whole concept of investment appraisal is one that is frequently examined on A2 papers because it allows candidates to demonstrate both good knowledge and application in a number-crunching exercise, along with taking a more holistic approach to first analysing and then evaluating what is the best course of action. A2 papers expect you to make a decision or weigh up both sides of an argument before recommending a course of action.
