Like other Western countries, Germany has experienced a financial downturn in recent years. In 2009 the German economy contracted by a record 5%. This was its deepest downturn since the end of the Second World War. Now though, there are strong signs that an economic recovery is underway.
Germany is Europe’s largest economy and the world’s second largest exporter — it was recently ousted from first place by China. It produces many of the goods found in the homes and on the roads of the UK.
