Emotional intelligence: Goleman’s four competencies

UPGRADE

Success with AQA Unit 2

Malcolm Surridge outlines the challenges posed by AQA’s Unit 2 exam and offers advice on how to tackle the paper successfully

AQA Unit 2 (BUSS2, Managing a Business) covers the four internal functions of business: marketing, finance, operations management, and people and organisations. The exam comprises two stimulus questions, each worth 40 marks; approximately 20 of these are allocated to each of the internal functions. Unit 2 focuses on small or medium-sized businesses, particularly on the ways in which such businesses can improve their performance.

This paper is important: it makes up 60% of your AS result and 30% of the total A-level. It is more challenging than Unit 1 (BUSS1) in that it places less emphasis on knowledge (there are no definition questions, for example) and more on evaluation. There are four evaluative sub-questions within each stimulus question, one on each of the internal functions.
