WoodyStock/Alamy

Teamwork is an essential part of most jobs and effective teams can make a huge difference to the success of an organisation. Just look at the successful teams in sports, such as cricket, football or Formula One motor racing, and you can see it is much more than individual skills and talents — it is also to do with how well they work together.

Over a period of almost a decade, Dr Meredith Belbin and his team of researchers at Henley Management College studied the behaviour of managers from all over the world. Their different personalities, intellect and conduct were assessed during the tests. From the research, different clusters of behaviour were identified as contributing to the success of different teams.
