When I was at school and university, the career fairs aimed at students studying science offered more options outside of science than they did in science. ‘Have a degree in biochemistry? Why not try finance, law or any number of other non-related alternatives?’ But I knew I wanted to stay in science.
After completing my undergraduate research project, I knew laboratory work was not for me. In my search for entry-level positions I was overwhelmed by the number of jobs in pharmaceutical sales or as a laboratory technician. Then I stumbled upon medical communications (med comms). My only regret is not knowing about it sooner. It is a career that is diverse, exciting and fun.
