Live lobster

Our oceans have become a huge focus in the media since the release of Blue Planet II in 2017. Concerns about marine plastics and global warming have been brought into the limelight. But the oceans are also a huge resource. They produce 80% of our oxygen, and over 3 billion people rely on them for a source of protein. Some fishery practices are unsustainable, but here is how my organisation contributes to sustainable harvesting.

European lobsters are an iconic species of UK coasts (see A). They are a favourite delicacy in restaurants, and a key resource for Britain’s coastal communities. However, the life of a lobster is a hazardous and complex one, and that is where we, The National Lobster Hatchery, can help.
