Over the years, some of my students seemed to believe that they could delay developing a full knowledge and understanding of the subject content of their biology specification until almost the end of the course. They would attend classes regularly and show interest in the subject, but the standard of the work they submitted was usually well below their capabilities. Unfortunately, their final grade usually reflected their lack of work throughout the course.
I saw evidence of the same approach by other students during my examining days. Year after year, I noticed scripts in which students showed flawed knowledge and understanding, even of basic topics.
